This is supposed to be my final year "project" - something that will always remain memorable to me when I return back home to Malaysia. Thanks to all the organising committees and also volunteers, for making this event not only a success, but a BLAST!
It was 5.45am in the morning, Ben and I was busy doing stuff for the event when we realised it was raining like crazy. My mouth opened! What theeee.....?? Nooo!!!
And then 10 minutes later, I saw the sun. It was such a relief although I knew that it will be freakin' cold the whole day during the event.
The event was awesome. Performances were fantastic. Raiyan did the emcee-ing really well. We couldn't ask for a better emcee. Erol, being what I call the most 'multi-talented' Malaysian of the day showed off his skills not only in Malay dance but also in Silat & Ngajat dance and mdelling. Bhangra must be one of the most entertaining performance of all, with everyone (regardless of races) dancing to the beat as well!
It was fun to see the Malaysians mingling with each other, forgetting about the differences we all have and enjoying the togetherness as MALAYSIANS.... And of course, I am among the people who are grateful to be a Malaysian, where multiracial communities are still living peace (at least, that's what it seems to me ^_^)
To my friends, Happy Eid & Happy Deepavali again...
I hope you guys enjoyed the event yesterday.
Some of the photos inc the main photo with John So ---> credit to Colin Charles. He photographed more than 2000 pictures of the event. You can contact him at lenify@gmail.com

Hey, I am not that bad at all! I managed to weave THREE ketupats in ONE hour!
Hahahaha... I'm gonna have to call my mom and tell her that I have managed to weave ketupat for the first time.. IN MY LIFE!
Talk about pathetic.. hehehee... We are all struggling to get even one perfect ketupat.
Ben could only make one and he gave up.. .
Strangely, there were only 2 Malays (me and Shairah) and others are all Chinese & Indian who came to weave the ketupat. Thanks guys, it was nice meeting you all. And you should be proud of yourselves. That's what we call "muhibbah"...
I wanted to add in some sarcasms about multicultural celebration, but I rather not. Haha..
Peace y'all.

Selamat Hari Raya? :D
|
|
Another Raya photo session with Asto kids... sesi 2006!
Hurm... oh well, this year is going to be my last Hari Raya here...
Next year, back in Malaysia...!!
Dang, I am so going to miss Melbourne. So much of being such a patriotic, I have to admit that Melbourne is one of the best cities to live in.
1. The friendly people, the friendly culture... something you rarely find in Malaysia. Even cashiers here greet you with such a pleasant manner.
2. Freedom of speech. It's amazing how they could speak their minds without fear.
3. The clean environment. Would you find workers working at 2am.. spraying anti-bacteria stuff at the the bins, cleaning tram stops and wiping off dirt from the signs? Their maintenance is superb, I tell ya'
4. 8 hours movement - one of the movements I find fascinating. No overtime, more time for your family, sufficient rest, better pay. What more could you ask for?
5. Government staff are not snobs. They would try to help as much as they could, even if they had to make a couple of phone calls for you. Try ours, they would either yell at you or hang up (well, at least to me!)
6. Cool weather (though sometimes unpredictable)
7. FREEDOM - something I will miss a LOT when I go back home... hehehe... no more late night movies and weekend parties, no more shopping whenever you feel like it....and I will have curfews.... blurgh! Oh, well.... good times will be over.
8. They are very very bersemangat when it comes to ANTI-WAR, ANTI-RACISM, ANTI-TERRORISM.... and it's fun to watch rallies!
9. RESPECT. The people here respect each others' beliefs. They welcome discussions & debates about religions - something that one can rarely experience back home.
Indeed, I have been in love with Melbourne and will miss this place so much. If I am given a choice, I would stay here... but I have my parents and family to consider.
And having myself "bonded" to a "particular company" is not cool at all. Especially after I feel that they have been treating us like kids. I know for sure that I will hate the working environment there.... blergh again... I have to pass my course first!

and you can google a lot more websites.. Surely there are so many offended people out there who are waiting for explanation & apology...
So, it's OK to offend these people because they're non-Muslims? Whewww, talk about justice, my man!
29 Sept 2006 - Durga Pooja - Saptami
30 Sept 2006 - Durga Pooja - Mahastami
01 Okt 2006 - Durga Pooja - Navami
02 Okt 2006 - Dussehra - Vijaya Dasami

It's either they do not have any Indian friends at all.. or urghhhh... whatever!
Oh, please! Wishing people Happy Deepavali, Happy Christmas, Happy Chinese New Year is merely showing your respect for others' belief.... God, are you guys living in a coconut shell like a frog or something? I live with different kinds of people for God's sake... and people interact and respect each other!
Enough said.
All Glory be to God..
http://n32.blogspot.com - eh don't u guys want to kutuk the mufti too then? He has my thoughts also whaaatttt? - oh, well. Just because I am not "religious" enough according to "you guys", I am not supposed to express my thoughts? I have to go and find other 'mufti' to clarify?
| Quote: | It’s no sin to say Happy Deepavali
Hamidah Atan
New Straits Times
It is neither sinful nor wrong for Muslims to wish their Hindu or Christian friends "Happy Deepavali" or "Merry Christmas".
Perak mufti Datuk Seri Harussani Zakaria said it was not blasphemous to extend wishes to someone celebrating a festival.
"There is nothing wrong if we (Muslims) wish our non-Muslim friends, Happy Deepavali, Merry Christmas or Happy Chinese New Year.
"As long as we do not ‘greet’ their gods, there should not be any problem as it is not against the teachings of Islam.
"As Malaysians, we must be respectful of each other’s religions or festivals.
"If they wish us Happy Hari Raya, that is also not wrong.
"This will further enhance unity and relations among the multi-ethnic races in this country."
Harussani, who is also a National Fatwa Council committee member, was asked to comment on an email sent to staff of Takaful Malaysia Berhad which advised them against wishing "Happy Deepavali" to Hindus.
The Oct 3 email was apparently sent out by the company’s Syariah department head, Mohd Fauzi Mustaffa.
In the email, Fauzi had apparently said that wishing "Happy Durga Pooja, Happy Lakshmi Pooja and Happy Deepavali" could be deemed as extending greetings to the Hindu gods Durga, Lakshmi and Krishna.
He claimed that this was blasphemous and was against Islamic teachings.
Fauzi had apparently also said that those who had uttered such greetings to Hindus should repent immediately and not repeat them.
The email, which had been widely circulated, did not go down well with the Malaysia Hindu Sangam which lodged a police report on Friday.
Hindu Sangam president Datuk A. Vaithilingam said such views were seditious and Malaysian Hindus were "greatly disturbed" and "disappointed".
Takaful, in a statement posted on its website on Wednesday, had said that the email was only for internal circulation.
"The contents and views expressed are not Takaful Malaysia’s official stand and definitely not an edict or final reference for use by unrelated parties."
Selangor mufti Datuk Mohd Tamyis Abdul Majid shared similar views as his Perak colleague.
"The views of all mufti are the same," said Tamyis, who is also a council member.
He said Muslims were in fact encouraged to greet their non-Muslim friends who were celebrating the festivals as this could enhance friendship and co-operation among the different races in Malaysia.
However, both mufti said it was wrong and sinful for Muslims to greet the gods of their non-Muslim friends as such acts were deemed to be blasphemous and against the teachings of Islam.
In Kuala Lumpur, Bernama reported that MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu was disturbed and disappointed over the circular.
"Malaysia’s greatest advantage is the unity of the people and the stability it enjoys in a multi-racial and multi-religious society," the Works Minister said on his return from London where he had attended the 13th Intelligent Transportation System World Congress.
He said Malaysians had long understood and respected each other’s religions and cultural practices, and this had strengthened national unity.
"But the remarks by some people may disrupt national unity."
Samy Vellu said Malaysians must be cautious of attempts by certain groups to thwart the unity of the people.
"We cannot ignore extremists elements who try to propagate their own thoughts to disrupt the peace in the country," Samy Vellu added. |
Lesson learnt here boys and girls..
| Quote: | | [9:31] and they have set up their religious leaders and scholars as lords instead of God....... |
To those who have relied so heavily on religious scholars/muftis/ulama' and so forth, at times a simple logic is needed. And God says Al-QURAN is the most complete book, not a word has been left out and we humans go around hunting for other sources instead.
Wallahu-Alam. I wish you all well.
